Launch of OECD Ireland Survey 2009 (some taxation points)

Every 1 ½ - 2 years there is an economic survey carried out by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) for each OECD country.

A number of recommendations were made in relation to tax to improve Ireland’s fiscal position, including:

  • The introduction of property taxes as an efficient way of raising revenue
  • Establishing a path towards the reduction of mortgage interest tax relief
  • Reducing personal allowances to widen the tax base
  • Improving tax and benefit incentives to stay in the workforce beyond age 65
